Hot Yoga

Hot yoga is a balanced blend of the “Asanas” and heat therapy. It is done in a supervised environment of 95–100 degree F. The room is warmed to match the body’s core temperature using hydronic radiant heating, to foster flexibility, blood flow and calorie burning. Savoured with soothing music, hot yoga is an excellent way of meditation. 

Benefits of hot yoga:

  • The first wonder you can see is it makes you sweat. This seeps out all the toxins in your body.
  • Next, the temperature warms up your ligaments and tendons promptly and helps in burning few calories down.
  • It also regulates the blood flow in your body. 

Precautions:

Hot yoga is not recommended during pregnancy. In addition, you need to relax and cool down after a hot session and before moving out or stepping into a cold place. You must pay attention to hydration of your body throughout the session. 

Exercise physiologist Luke Bowen, of Sydney Sport and Exercise Physiology, says that any form of exercise in such high temperatures carries a risk of dehydration, dizziness, nausea, a drop in blood pressure and even loss of consciousness and healthy brain function.

On other side, we have traditional yoga which is taught at an adaptable pace and practiced at room temperature. It is meant to alleviate stress and anxiety. It is a gentler practice which intends to integrate both mind and body wellness for overall health. While the stretches may be difficult to twist into, you likely will not break a sweat. There are two ways to go:

  • One is slow hot flow, a series of floating traditional “Hatha Asanas”, gentle on the joints.
  • Second is power flow, a vigorous practice following “Ashtanga Vinyasa” lineage that works to create internal heat through strong poses, pace and jumping transitions.

  • Perform it in empty stomach
  • Maintain regular routine

Note: If you have health problems such as heart disease that might be affected by hot temperatures, Traditional yoga may be the better option for your health. In-short, the traditional one is a more profound practice that one should follow if looking for a more balanced self.
